The purpose of the Sports Association is to promote the amateur sports of football, cricket, tennis and running in the Royal Wootton Bassett area and encourage community participation in these activities.

The Sports Association is based at the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground, a state-of-the-art facility on the northern edge of Royal Wootton Bassett, opened in 2015.

The facility is named in honour of Major Gerard Buxton, who bequeathed the land which comprised the Association's original facility at Rylands Way for 'the carrying out of sporting activities by members of the local population' and was opened in May 1930.

There are two ways to become a member of the Royal Wootton Bassett Sports Association.

The first is by joining one of the member clubs (all club members are thus entitled to RWBSA membership).

Alternatively, individuals can join the Sports Association as a 'Social Member', entitling them to enjoy the benefits of using the members' bar, watch sporting events and participate in the many social events throughout the year.

The Gerard Buxton Sports Ground facility comprises:

  • RWBTFC's floodlit stadium football pitch, with covered seating and standing facilities
  • A floodlit Artificial Grass Pitch (with the potential for use as a full-sized football pitch or three small-sided pitches)
  • Grass pitches (utilised as five grass football pitches during the winter months and two cricket pitches in the summer months - one with a Minor Counties' standard grass square, the other with a grass square and artificial wicket)
  • Eight all-weather, floodlit tennis courts (which are available for non-members to use on a 'pay and play' basis during the daytime and at weekends)
  • A pétanque piste

There is also a large, spacious function room with a fully licensed bar, capable of holding up to 50 people in a theatre-style layout or up to 150 people when set up to allow a mix of seating and standing. This is available to hire and can accommodate a range of events, including business meetings, celebration parties, wedding receptions and more. When organising events, RWBSA can also arrange catering and refreshments for small and large groups.

The facility can easily be accessed by foot, cycle and car. There are 150 parking spaces and three coach bays available.

The sporting and social facilities are all available to hire at competitive prices (subject to use by the Sports Association's member clubs).

For more information about hiring facilities, please visit the RWBSA website, or contact RWBSA by email or phone (01793 853880).

To enquire about the hiring of the stadium football pitch, please contact email or phone (01793 853880).

Please note that dogs (except for guide dogs) are not permitted on the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground site.

New members.
Genuinely welcome.

No fees to browse, no trial period, no catch — just five clubs that are actually short of people and would love to see you turn up.

  • All abilities — every club runs sessions for complete beginners, not just existing players.
  • One ground — the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground, Brinkworth Rd, easy parking on site.
  • No pressure — most first sessions are drop-in, so you can try before deciding to join.
  • Run by volunteers — for volunteers, by people who actually play and coach here.
  • No commitment — come along, see if it's for you, no obligation either way.
